How do u do a basic tune up on your truck?

92 nissan what all do i have to do.

spark pluggs and spark plug wires--how

rotor and rotor cap assembly---how

changing out the battery and getting rid of corrosion

changing my oil--??

changing tranny fluid??

changing air filter??

can i replace my own exhaust pipe and my muffler thats busted in half if i had perfect directions or should i leave that one to the pros??

my truck may be crapping out but i want to do a tune up before i know for sure so if there is anything else i need please let me know. tx

it doesn't like to function in low gears. It huffs n puffs and sometimes looses power going uphill. goign 65 on a highway is no problem but goign slow speeds is difficult for it. I know i have a hole in the exhaust and a busted muffler and it does need a tune up but what do u think. Also, what do u do when an auto shop quotes u 595.00 dollars for sparknpluggs, battery change and rotor change. overcharge duah they didnt' find the muffler or the hole in the exhaust either??laws? How do u do a basic tune up on your truck?
Whew, you're askin alot aren't you!

Spark plugs http://www.ngk.com that's where to get em (or at least get the specs on the ones you need) I don't know if you have the v-6 or the i-4 the v-6 is a pain in the but to change plugs. But in order to do it, just change one at a time so you don't mix up your wires, you will need a deep 5/8%26quot; spark plug socket and an assortment of extensions if you are doing a v-6. As for plug wires, only change one at a time.

Rotor and Cap, again, change the wires from the old cap to the new one, one at a time, just make sure you put them in the proper holes on the new cap. As for the rotor, you may have to undo a screw to remove it from the shaft, just make sure the new one points the same way your old one did once it's reinstalled.

Changing the battery should be self explanitory, just use a wire brush, or special tool that can be had for a couple of dollars at parts store, for leaning the terminals, and posts. remove old battery, install new.

Changing oil: you may have to remove a skid plate to gain access to the oil filter, and may have to use a big set of pliers to remove the lod filter...

Better yet, you can save yourelf alot of hassle, by just going to an oil change facility, such as jiffy lube.

Trans fluid can be done at a jiffy lube also, in some cases, or any mechanic can do all these things.

Air filter, just open the intake box (a box with a large hose on it going to the throttle body) should be either clipped or screwed closed, just open it up and remove and install then seal the box back up.

Exhaust work, Take it to an Exhaust shop unless you have a torch and welder in your garage, that you know how to use.

Don't forget to replace your fuel filter also.

Sounds also like you may need new catalytic converters, your exhaust shop should be able to tell you if you do.

And when you get an outrageous price, go somewhere else for a different opinion.

Don't forget to have your accessorie drive belts looked at and possible your timing belt. If you don't know when the last time your timing belt was replaced, then you should have it done soon! How do u do a basic tune up on your truck?
Invest in a handbook for your car, they can save you so much money in the long run. All this stuff is easy to do, you could do it in an afternoon. However, i'd say parts alone will run $200+ for everything but the exhaust. Exhaust you can definetly replace yourself. How do u do a basic tune up on your truck?
it sounds more like you need either an EGR valve or that you have a leak in a vacuum hose. vacuum hose fixes are cheap. EGR valves are just a bit more than a tuneup cost.
