Air filter for car?

what is the big deal about changing the air filter? please give details. had car inspected. it passed but they were commenting on the air filter that while it passed, it would be best if i had it changed.

what is the big deal about air filters. how can a piece of a little thing help with %26quot;gas mileage%26quot;. sounds like a bunch of ****! way to make money off of people.Air filter for car?
no dear, its not crap. you need a air filter. it keeps dirt from entering the intake and messing up the injectors, because a dirty air filter will make your car run rich and burn more gas, that will lead to high emissions.Air filter for car?
well, if its really glogged, it restricts air force to the engine, making it work harder, and using more gas to power the vehicle...

the filter itself should only be like $5. you can change it yourself, how much are they charging you??Air filter for car?
The air filter filters out dirt, that would get into your engine and wear it out...

This same dirt clogs the filter,.. when it does this it causes the engine to use extra gas, to make up for the missing air that isn't coming thru the filter....

Change your air filter about every 15000 miles....Air filter for car?
well, let me put it this way :), If I was to hold my hand over your mouth and nose, would you get a sufficient amount of air to have oxygen to live? same thing on a car. The more air, the more efficient it runs.Air filter for car?
Replace it! It is one of the most neglected things on cars. If the garage thought it was dirty now, it should have been replaced long ago. A lot of the dirt particles are microscopic. They don't cost that much. Clean air is cool! I'd replace it every 3 or 4 oil changes, which you should do every 3000 to 5000 miles.
