Auto air filter - what are the visual clues to replace it?

How can I tell when my car's air filter needs to be changed? It's not buried under under an inch of dust - but there is a light film of dust on all the surfaces. Are there any photos out there that will teach me to tell the difference between fine and replace?Auto air filter - what are the visual clues to replace it?
the way i tell,is that i hold it up to the light and if i cant see light through it,then i replace it,also you can roll it around a trouble light too.Auto air filter - what are the visual clues to replace it?

Its cheap prevenitive maintence.

How do you clean fuel injectors on a 96 ford contour?

we have been using an additive to the gas, just about everytime we fill up the car. don't know when the car had last tune-up. had the car a little over a year, so far. bought it used from a local off the wall dealer. also, how do you know when you have to change the air filter? i don't know anything about vehicles. thought about bringing the car to a mechanic shop earlier today, to put it on a machine to find out where the problem is coming from...but don't want them to charge me for all kinds of different things that aren't necessary at the moment. one more thing...what happens when a sensor goes out on a car? any suggestions please? How do you clean fuel injectors on a 96 ford contour?
Forget all the other cheap additives....they don't work that well. Get a product called %26quot;Guaranteed To Pass%26quot; as far as additives are concerned it is expensive...but its less than $10....put it in a full tank of gas and drive on the freeway until you are almost on empty. That will clean out every part of the system including the fuel injectors.

As for air filters.....just open it up and have a look. There is no time rule, if it looks nasty...get a new one, they are really cheap and easy to replace.

If you have problems after that I would look up the number of fuel filters you have and get ALL of them replaced. Most people never do that, not sure why but they don't.How do you clean fuel injectors on a 96 ford contour?
find a shop that will sell you some bg44k this is the stuff all of the major manufacturers use to clean your engine when you take it to a dealer ford gm bmw Mercedes Honda Lexus all use it its about 15 bucks a can your check engine light will come on it is a self diagnostic when the lights on a sensor is bad. remove your filter and look between the pleats if its dirty get a new oneHow do you clean fuel injectors on a 96 ford contour?
Not quite sure Y. The best stuff I found and use is %26quot;Lucas fuel injector cleaner%26quot;. You don't have to do any unnecessary driving. A minor tune-up consists of oil, oil filter, spark plugs, wires if grungy or high mileage, air filter %26quot;rec. 12k.%26quot;, fuel filter on mileage 50k.

Your car has over 50 senors need more info !!!!!How do you clean fuel injectors on a 96 ford contour?
Sounds like you're having some minor but irritating problems with the way it's running. If you have a Pep Boys Automotive store in our area, they are really reasonable and do great diagnostic work. Take it in for a tune-up, and ask them to call you if anything else needs attention--that way you will be able to make informed decisions. How do you clean fuel injectors on a 96 ford contour?
Usually when a sensor goes bad, the check engine soon light would usually come on. It really isn't necessary to put injector additive on every fillup. You should change the air filter, when of course, its dirty looking. May have to actually pull it out to see the opposite side. Best time to get a tuneup done is about 100,000 miles on it.

Where is the fuel filter located on a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited? Also what's the cost to get it replaced?

Car sputters when starting to accelerate. Already changed spark plugs, air filter, oil filter, no check engine light

How much would the fuel filter to get replaced by a professional or mechanic?Where is the fuel filter located on a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited? Also what%26039;s the cost to get it replaced?
this is the worst design ever! the filter element is in the tank and is designed to be cleared by the sloshing of the fuel in the tank. more than likely this is not your problem, but to pull the tank and replace what is there will be in the $250 range.

How do I fix my dusty house?

I live in a 25 year old house with my husband and son. We are clean people. I clean and dust everyday but there is still so much dust on everything. I dont live near a dusty road or have any pets or anything that would obviously cause dust. Its driving me crazy! What is causing it and what can i do to fix it?

The only thing that I can think of is the people who lived here before us didnt keep up the house at all and we moved in and totally cleaned everything really good but maybe there is something we missed? I dont know.

Also we change our air filter regularly.

Thanks in advance! :)How do I fix my dusty house?
My mom and I get the air ducts cleaned AT LEAST once a year. The dust gets really bad near the end. We usually call Stanley Steamer, and you have to leave you house when they do it (and animals but you don't have any). It makes the house just feel better, makes me feel better with my allergies! How do I fix my dusty house?
An air purifier would help, as well as not keeping your windows open too much. Also, use oxyclean. How do I fix my dusty house?
everyday you just may have to dust here and there till you get it back under controllHow do I fix my dusty house?
You aren't going to believe this but trust me. Open all windows and doors, get a leaf blower and blow everything towards openings. Will create a huge dust storm. This has built up over the past quarter century and is ingrained rather deep. Now change filter again and dust with a damp cloth, washing out regularly. If obsessed with cleanliness , use original formula Lysol mixed per directions. It'll kill 99% of germs, remove dust and leave a slight shine. If floors are wood , repeat using mop. If carpet, clean and vacuum thoroughly. How do I fix my dusty house?
If I were you, I would try Jame's suggestion. It sounds like it might workHow do I fix my dusty house?
i was gonna say get an air filter but you already have one!!

james's idea sounds crazy enough to work!

How do I take off the engine cover on my 2007 VW Rabbit?

I need to change the air filter, but I don't want to break the engine cover/damage anything else, and don't want to go to the dealership. How do I take off the engine cover on my 2007 VW Rabbit?
disconnect the air intake with channels locks. It takes some muscle but you just have to pull it straight up and off. Start with the front of the engine cover and pull up then go to the back. there sould be 4 nipples attached to the motor just pull the rubber grommets off of those nipples and reinsert them back into the engine cover prior to putting it back on. the filter is inside the engine cover. Good Luck. How do I take off the engine cover on my 2007 VW Rabbit?
You do not need to remove the engine cover. It is a separate panel. How do I take off the engine cover on my 2007 VW Rabbit?
What? You trying to find out how to open the hood? Release handle down on drivers left leg area in car...pull on handle unlocks the hood, then go to the front of the car and feel under the hood for another lever and press it to unlatch it and lift hood up. I do not know what else an engine cover could be.

  • Changing a stock air filter with a performance one?

I have a 1991 honda accord lx and I have stock intake piping and a stock filter. I would like instructions on how to replace the stock air filter with a performance air filter. I know that I need to take out the air filter box but there is this hose thats connected to it and I dont know what to do with it. If someone could give me instructions on how to replace this part for my car that would be great.

Here is the link to the type of air filter I will get. Its from PepBoys.

http://cache.autoanything.com/images/products/rell/air_intake_systems/injen_diagram-.jpgChanging a stock air filter with a performance one?
your wasting your money/that junk wont do anything for your car/your better off with 12 bucks worth of pipe from home depot/that car has a computer that runs it and all you will do is lose gas milage as the computer trys to compensate for the vacuum loss/waste of timeChanging a stock air filter with a performance one?
ok heres how to do it. take out the intake box. you will be left with the piping. then just slip the piping over the aftermarket intake and tighten the clamp. and thats how you do itChanging a stock air filter with a performance one?
Think long and hard about what you're about to do. Your standard air-filter box draws in cold air from up under the fender. Cold air contains more oxygen than under hood hot air. This thing from Pep Boys is minus the hot under-hood intake manifolding. It's worthless as it's pictured here. More worthless sucking in hot under hood air after spending your money on it with the manifolding where ever it is.

Replace your standard air cleaner element with a direct fit K%26amp;N for less than %26amp;55.00 or buy a complete N%26amp;N *cold air intake for @275.00.

    Gutless Ford Ranger part 2?

It is a V6 2.9 rebuilt at Fallon Auto Mall (a ford shop) in Fallon, NV: since, with less than 500 miles, tune up with oil change, air %26amp; fuel filter change. When I put the accellerator to the floor it will %26quot;creep%26quot; to a higher speed and after about 2 miles tops at 80MPH with a strong tail wind. The exhaust system is also rather new (aprox. 1000 miles).

Even with a rebuilt engine my '88 Ranger 4 X 4 looses 20 MPH on a slight incline and drops dramatically as the hills steepen. Any ideas how I can increase the power?Gutless Ford Ranger part 2?
If the engine head was not remanufactured then the valve guides might be leaking sporadically. Do a compression test on each cylinder at different engine rpms. If the compression occasionally drops in a cylinder then air is leaking around the valves and through the valve guides.Gutless Ford Ranger part 2?

I think the air condition filter for a 2005 Nissan Sentra is behind the glove compartment. How do I get at it to change it?How do you change the cabin filter on a 2005 Nissan Sentra?
First get a 2 philips screwdriver remove 4 screws across the top of the open glove box catch the center metal latch it goes only one way and two each corner at the bottom dash screws pull the glove box out. Now there is a retangular cover that unsnaps under that is a nasty allergen covered incabin micro filter. Nissan is the only place that seels the correct filter..How do you change the cabin filter on a 2005 Nissan Sentra?
It is! Just open your glove box and you may see a little compartment towrds the top of it. You just pull it out and replace the cabin filter. I used to work at Jiffy Lube and we used to replace these all the time. If you cant figure it out i would recommend going to a Jiffy Lube, and since you already have a filter, they may not charge you for labor, since its fairly simple.

What are some of the easiest DIY projects in automotive repair/maintenance?

I'm interested in learning how to take care of my car, in terms of maintenance and repair. What projects besides oil change, transmission fluid change, and air filter replacement are easy enough for a novice? Assume that I have rhino ramps, basic tools (ratchet set), and maybe a jack and jack stand. Thanks! What are some of the easiest DIY projects in automotive repair/maintenance?
distributor cap, rotor (the one under the distributor cap), fuel filter, air filter (is a joke easiest thing), oil changes if you have room to do them, rotating the tires, valve cover gasket, brake bleeding (requires 2 people or self bleeder screws), Clutch bleeding (also requires 2 people but same exact concept of break bleeding). and thats pretty much itWhat are some of the easiest DIY projects in automotive repair/maintenance?
Doing brakes is not exactly brain surgery! Do one brake job for yourself and you'll wonder why they charge so much at a shop. Buy a caliper spreader and a shop manual for your vehicle and you'll amaze yourself what all you can do.What are some of the easiest DIY projects in automotive repair/maintenance?
First Get yourself the book for your car and review the owners manual for preventative maintenance charts and schedule oil changes and vehicle lube are one key component in maintenance as you progress you will learn if you thoroughly study the book and follow directions try a haynes manual at auto zone about $20 and go from thereWhat are some of the easiest DIY projects in automotive repair/maintenance?
You can save a tremendous amount of money if you read all you can concerning the entire braking system on your car. Simple brake pad, rotor re-surfacing, rotor replacement, caliper slider pin lubrication, rotor thickness measuring, bleeding brakes when necessary and picking and choosing better parts along the way.

Pick up a Haynes or Chiltons manual at any auto-parts store for your specific car. You will see tons of car maintenance procedures.

Learn how to drain, flush and *cleaning your cooling system which gets neglected by most people. Read your tire tread depths and adjust pressures on the high side when ever possible. Maximum tire pressures are posted on the tire sidewall. Use name brand oil filters. Wix, Denso, Motorcraft and Purolator Gold are the best you can lay your hands on.

How can I clean my 2002 Ford Focus's engine?

I just bought a 2002 Ford Focus and the engine is all dirty. I am thinking of pressure washing it when the engine is cold. Is this a good idea?

Also, my engine hesitates when it is not warmed up. What should I do? I plan to change the spark plugs, change the air filter, add fuel injector cleaner to the gas, and maybe change the fuel filter. Will this solve my problem?

Also, my automatic transmission slips when I am between gears. For example, first gear works fine, but it slips before going into second gear (I can press on the gas, and the transmission doesn't engage right away- the engine just revs up). Is this an electrical problem? How can I clean my 2002 Ford Focus%26039;s engine?
Why would you buy a vehicle with all of these problems without buying an extended warranty????? To clean the engine, You need to buy an engine cleaner at a parts store. Just make sure the vehicle is running when you spray it down with water! How can I clean my 2002 Ford Focus%26039;s engine?
You can pressure wash it - be careful not to spray directly on electrical components and stuff. I tend to just let my engine look nasty, since it has zero effect on the way it runs.

Alternately you could spray it off with some engine cleaner and wipe it off (probably suggestable - since you can seriously damage stuff with the pressure washer if you aren't careful).

Your maintanance ideas all sound like they should help out, if not, you might want to see if you can find someone with a compression tester, to make sure that your valves are all seating correctly, and the piston rings aren't shot. If it runs okay when it is warm, then everything is probably ok.

The transmission is kind of worrying - make sure it has enough transmission fluid. If it keeps doing it, then you might want to take it to someone to flush the transmission, replace the filter, and put fresh fluid in it. If it still keeps doing it, then you will probably need to find someone who can repair/rebuild it. Expect to pay way too much money - shop around for some quotes, and make sure to find someone reliable and reasonable. If you aren't sure about it, see if anyone you know can recommend someone, or can help you to choose a mechanic.

Good luck!!How can I clean my 2002 Ford Focus%26039;s engine?
warm your engine up...spray it with GUNK degreaser... power wash... the tuneup parts you listed should take care of your hesitation problem...the trans is more serious...and it will get worse if you don't have it looked at...it could be as easy as a vacuum control valve ...a trans filter or low on fluid....or it could be much more complicated. How can I clean my 2002 Ford Focus%26039;s engine?
I have washed many engines, with varying results. Using Gunk engine cleaner, it came clean but every light on the dash came on and stayed on for days until it finally dried ? This on a newer Caddy. My old Chevy with points, carb etc had no ill effects. Others skipped and knocked until fully dry. NO pressure washing ! As for tranny problems, any good auto parts place has a myriad of things to correct this. I've used them successfully twice out of 2 tries. How can I clean my 2002 Ford Focus%26039;s engine?
OK, firstly, cleaning an engine is easy, but don't pressure wash it whatever you do.

Just get some cling film and wrap up any electrical items that aren't covered particulalry well.

Then, spray a load of GUNK (it's a degreaser available from auto shops, or you can use Autoglym's MACHINE CLEANER, or even MUC OFF) and agitate it with a stiff brush, radiator brushes are ideal as they have good lonf handles for easy reach.

Then just rinse off with a normal hose pipe. Run the engine to dry everything off, and then give all the plastic and rubber components a liberal spray with a rubber protector, back to black for instance.

If the car is due a good service with plugs and filters, that will sort your hesitating out 9 times out 10. Poor plugs and gapping are the normal cause.

As for slipping, hmm, fords CVT box is a bit of a dog, there will always be what seems like slipping with an Auto box, and upshifts aren't instantaneous when you plant your foot in any auto. Which is why sports cars very rarely have auto boxes.

A Tune-up varies with the shop or dealer you choose. The list you

have should include, Spark Plugs, Air Filter, Fuel Filter, Oil Filter.

With the miles you have on it there are several other concerns such

as Timing Belt and Alternator Belt, A/C Belt, and having the coolant

tested for its protection level (-40F) and a general check of hoses and

vacuum lines. While it is up in the air a under-car check will spot

and avoid problems with exhaust system and shocks and brakes etc.

How do I get rid of this awful smell in my apartment?

Ok so everytime I go to my girl friends apartment and come home my apartment reeks of wood or something. I clean on a regular basis, change my air filter, and use candles and plugins. All it does is mask the smell. I can't get rid of it. The smell really annoys me and makes me wonder if other people can smell it when they come to my home. Any suggestions would be great. How do I get rid of this awful smell in my apartment?
You really need to find the source of the smell to eliminate it.

Failing that, I have had success using vinegar to rid my apartment of unwanted odours. Thank you very much! What are the top 10 things I can do to my 1997 Jeep Cherokee Country to increase fuel efficiency?
    Change spark plugs

    Change plug wires.

Check air pressure in tires.-It does make a difference.

Clean injectors.- their are some decent do it yourselfers at the auto store.

Replace air filter- check into a tornado enhancer to help inflow of air.

    Change oil and filter

Change fuel filter.-may be a little involved if its in the tank

Check and grease bearings and grease fittings

If available, find someone who can hook it up to a computer (they are sold now to the public) and make sure all your sensors are working.

Check into a better exhaust system, a factory one is not always the most efficient.

JB Witney website can give you some alternatives to fuel savers and other options for your vehicleWhat are the top 10 things I can do to my 1997 Jeep Cherokee Country to increase fuel efficiency?
    Proper tire pressure

    Good Alignment

    clean air filter

    new plugs (spark plugs ;)

    new plug wires

    Fuel filter

    Clean injectors

    Easy on the throttle

    baby your brakes

    Car pool.

You have the aero of a brick, good luck. What are the top 10 things I can do to my 1997 Jeep Cherokee Country to increase fuel efficiency?
Wreck it and use the insurance money to buy a small, fuel-efficient car.

    Keep your tire pressures up.

Drive with a light foot. Slow down. SUVs have a lot of aerodynamic drag.

Avoid stop-and-go driving if you can. Try to coast and not come to a complete stop at lights.

You could try a thinner motor oil, just make sure it provides proper lubrication.

All of the above will help a little, but you're never going to get 30+ mpg with it.What are the top 10 things I can do to my 1997 Jeep Cherokee Country to increase fuel efficiency?
Make sure the air filters are keep clean, use 100% synthetic oil, drive at moderate speed, drive smoothly, reduce unnecessary drag, don't use premium fuel if you don't have to, minimize driving with a cold engine, keep tires properly inflated, buy tires with lower rolling resistance and avoid idling for long periods. What are the top 10 things I can do to my 1997 Jeep Cherokee Country to increase fuel efficiency?
I wish there were 10 but there are only 5

first you need to know that your engine is an air pump ,so (1) ease the air going in via a high flow air intake ,(2) ease the exhaust going out via a high flow cat and mufler.

    (3) over inflate the tires by about 5psi , (4) change all lubes with syntetic to reduce friction (engine oil , transfer-case, differecials, and tranny if you have a manula one)

(5)lighten up the jeep, do not carry anything you dont need

    BUT, THERE IS SONETHING ELSE

go on youtube.com and type in HHO and build yourself and hydrogen generator . It's super easy and it will double your mpg

With the hard work you have already put into this machine, there is only one thing left, the fuel system. Have the carburetor cleaned, and that's the only potential problem by your symptoms described you haven't already addressed!Lawn Mower starts Easy and Stalls repeatedly. How do I fix?
There is defiantly a fuel problem most likely a dirty carb. Especially on a Briggs motor there are small jet ports in th carb that get clogged from dirt or stale gas it causes a build up inside th carb. It is relatively easy to do but if you are a bit Leary of doing this yourself take it to a shop should run you about 40 bucks to have the carb cleaned but if you are smart get the machine serviced fully usually around 90 bucks for a full service IE plug air filter oil change blade sharpened and a carb cleaning.

How Long Does It Take to Get Air Out of Lines After Changing Fuel Filter?

I am assuming you need to refill the lines and the new filter. How long does usually take? How Long Does It Take to Get Air Out of Lines After Changing Fuel Filter?
Hi, I just did this job yesterday on my truck. If your vehicle is fuel injected it is instant. Fuel injected cars run with high pressure and as soon as you turn the key to on, it will pressurize the lines with gas. If your car is older and has a mechanical fuel pump, you will have to crank the engine for while to get all the air out of the lines, but not much more than a minute or two.How Long Does It Take to Get Air Out of Lines After Changing Fuel Filter?
What he said, just leave the ignition on but not started 30 seconds, check under where you repaired just in case. Then start her up.

  • Can anyone please tell me how to change the air and pollen filters on a saab 95 2.3t w reg have looked?

in my book and still dont know where they are,be very grateful for any help you can offer ,thanksCan anyone please tell me how to change the air and pollen filters on a saab 95 2.3t w reg have looked?
The cabin air filter is located behind the HVAC controls, and it accessible from the footwell on the passengers side of the vehicle. It requires you to remove the glovebox, which is held in with something like 7 screws, and a small plastic panel, held in with the plastic plugs. After removing those, there is an electrical unit that is located behind where the glovebox once was; remove that from its clip, and shift it accordingly, as you will now be sliding the cabin air filter out from behind the centrally located HVAC controls (This was a pain for me). Additionally, there should be some foam that goes around some piping above the filter, this should be replaced as well. Be sure to clear out any leaves and major stuff that is in the area in which the new filter goes. Then just go through the steps backwards to put the new filter and foam back in.

As for the air filter for the engine, that is located in front of the passenger side front wheel at the bottom of the bumper. At least in the 2006 9-5, it is located in a plastic box which has a snorkel leading up to the front grill. To access it, there are 4 torx screws holding a panel on the bottom of the box. Unscrew these, remove the panel and the engine air filter should drop down. Then just reverse the steps to put it back in.

Hopefully this helps. I am not sure if things might be slightly different on earlier models, and I may have missed a small step here or there, but this is what I remember doing when I changed the filters about a year ago. Good luck.

There are some good places out there called auto repair shops. I wonder why people think they can look on-line and find out how to do a job that people go to school to learn.

If you don't know how, take it to someone and pay them to fix it.I have a 1995 mercedes benz c280 and i don%26039;t know how to change the spark plugs, oil, oil filter, and air filter?

Agree with the others. Get yourself an auto repair BOOK (library for free). Some of the new books might have a CD with videos or other multimedia content.

Don't count on the web, usually you will only short articles. If you must, check out ehow.com and maybe you can find a tutorial.I have a 1995 mercedes benz c280 and i don%26039;t know how to change the spark plugs, oil, oil filter, and air filter?
    I can help a little.

Consider drivers side the right side.

With the hood up, on the left side is a plastic box, in it is the air filter.

The plugs are a bit difficult to see :)

To get to them you need to remove the air flow tubing that goes across the engine, then remove the center cover that is on top of the engine. You will see the coils and half your plugs, the others are under the coils. They are deep set and require a wire pulling tool to remove the plug wires.

Note: When removing the air flow tubing be careful not to dislodge the sensors in it, this will cause a multitude of problems.

The oil filter is located at the rear of the engine just to the right of center ... you will see the oil filter cap there and it needs a special tool to remove, it is plastic. Once that is removed you will see the oil filter ( insert ).

    Good luck

How long until the air blows cold again?

Changing the oil every 2000 miles. Keeping the air pressure up to mfg. lines. (should be on the side of the tire, somewhere near the rim) Hold a penny between thumb and finger with Lincoln's head at top. Insert top of penny in the tread of the tire. If you can see the margin of penny between the top of his head and the penny, it is time for new tires. What are some basic things to know about car care?
Be sure you spray down your engine every couple months. You can use the sprayer at the car wash (it will not hurt it), or you can use compressed air. Doing this keeps the dirt in your engine at a minimum and can reduce wear and tear. What are some basic things to know about car care?
Your owners manual in the glove box will usually have a list of recommended services and intervals. The dealer can also recommend what services need to be done.

  • How do I replace my furnace / air conditioning filter(s)?

3 years ago, I had a complete HVAC cut-in on my house. They installed a Lennox 12ACB air conditioner, a Lennox G40UH gas furnace, and an Aprilaire 2400 air cleaner. The systems all run great, but I've never changed any filters. Where are they is the question? I see that the Aprilaire one is easy to change. Is there also one on the A/C or furnace unit? How do I replace my furnace / air conditioning filter(s)?
The filter on the furnace should also be the same one for your air conditioning duct. It will be located in the return air just before the blower compartment on the furnace. How do I replace my furnace / air conditioning filter(s)?
As one of the other answers below stated the filter could also be at the return air vent. These are sometimes located remotly from the main furnace unit. Mine was in my hallway at the cold air intake vent.

There are filters for most furance /ac. Take the lovered screen off the filter under there. Some pull out . PemHow do I replace my furnace / air conditioning filter(s)?
Depends on the type of furnace/air conditioner. If your A/C coil and furnace are in the attice then the filter is in the return duct usually located in the hallway, there may be more than one, my house is 2000 square feet and I have 3. If your A/C/furnace is located in a garage or room they usually put them in the unit itself, you will have to remove a panel normally labeled %26quot;filter inside%26quot;. If your A/C furnace is old and you cant read any labels anymore you can either look through the manual or type in the model number on the internet and find it that way.

Walk around your house and look at the supply and return registers, the return registers look different and are usually bigger. If you live in the North I would have to say the filter will be in the unit itself, if you live in the south and your supply and return registers are on the ceiling then I would have to say the filter is probably in the register. How do I replace my furnace / air conditioning filter(s)?
I myself would contact the company who installed them for you.

Didnt you receive an owners manual for the appliances?

Possibly look online for the specific brand %26amp; model numbers of your units.

ChrisHow do I replace my furnace / air conditioning filter(s)?
I would assume that the only filter on your system is the Aprilaire 2400. More than one filter on one system can create air-movement problems and ruin the equipment. Too much filtering is worse than no filtering at all............................

Well, I was gonna say check the Owners Manual before I clicked your post but...

I can't find anything handy on it either that's conclusive, but the most common location seems to be if you pop the hood open, and look just in front of the windshield on the passenger side, and look for a long rectangular part that unscrews and lifts out.

I do see that Autozone has them, sold in pairs. This link should get you started, but you'll have to enter your Year, Make, Model and Engine from there, then your zip for a price. Also, your nearest location should show in the box on the right.

Dust dust dust ... how can it be???

we live in a 10 acre field away from the major road. the whole yard even the drive way is grass, not dirt. we have a humidifier, air filter and change air filter regularly, and we dust once a week. But our house looks like it hasn't been dusted for months two days later.

why is it? what am i doing wrong or is there something i can do to reduce dust? i'm going crazy because i've tried dusting every other day even with a damp cloth so dust won't spread in the air while i'm doing it, the next day, there it is. we vacuum once or sometimes twice a week and mop floors once a week, and like i said, we have air purifier and humidifier. i'm not exagerating, i've never seen a house get sooo dusty so fast like ours. please give me some advice.Dust dust dust ... how can it be???
I have the exact same problem and before we (my mom and I) moved it didn't seem like we had dust at our old house. Then it occurred to me that when we moved, we bought all new furniture and almost all of it is dark cherry wood or mahogany, which naturally shows dust more than the lighter wood furniture we had prior to moving. That of course doesn't explain why there is so much dust in your house or ours, but I'm thinking that perhaps our houses are too 'tight': i.e., no drafts, so the dust has no place to go except up in the air and back down on the furniture, floors, etc. Of course, this is not some scientific reason, just an opinion, but maybe it's a start...Dust dust dust ... how can it be???

What is the source of a funky smell coming from the AC/Heat air vents?.?

Everytime the AC or Heat is turned on in my 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee, there is an initial blast of a musty, moldy smell that comes out of the vents. It is similar to the dank smell you get when you forget to take the clothes out of the washer to put in the dryer. Any ideas of where it's coming from? And how to get rid of it? I've tried changing the air filter, but that doesn't seem to be the thing that is musty. Is there another filter of some sort that perhaps got wet? What is the source of a funky smell coming from the AC/Heat air vents?.?
it may be a dead animal! one time there was a foul smell coming from through the vents and my dad found out that it was a dead rat under the hood! Yucks!!!What is the source of a funky smell coming from the AC/Heat air vents?.?
It is likely that your evaporator coil is very dirty. Air blows over this coil before it reaches the inside of you home. When it gets moist, it will mildew in time, thus the moldy smell. Your coils (condenser and evaporator) need to be cleaned by a tech about once a year.

The first thing that comes to my mind is check and see if you have a leak in your heater core. I am not sure where it is located on your particular unit. If it is leaking, the carpet my be wet on the passengers side. Like I say, I am not up on your model, it may be under the hood, either way, it will be enclosed in the duct work, and could be a source of this smell, if that is the problem. What is the source of a funky smell coming from the AC/Heat air vents?.?
something dead in itWhat is the source of a funky smell coming from the AC/Heat air vents?.?
Could be anything but I will address the most common issue.

Exactly what it smells like... Mold from moisture most likely. Humidity, condensation or whatever it got moist. Then molded. At places like AutoZone or Pep Boys they sell a sprayer that kills mold. Buy it then follow directions to fumigate your vent system without having to dissasemble it.

Also sometimes a leaking heater core can let antifreeze into the vent area and it will make a similar smell but usually more sickly sweet.

The cabin air filter on the 98 Accords are usually above the glove box. Open your glove compartment, pinch the support arms in so you can drop the glove compartment door down and look inside there. It should right above the glove box.

    Hi

messing with the air to fuel mixture is not something you want to do.

the best way to check if the mixture is wrong is to look at the colour of the spark plugs nose. that is the colour of the Porcelain next to where the spark takes place it should be a chocolate colour if the mixture is correct.

if it is pale then the mixture is week and would require Professional help.

if the colour is black it could be the air filter needs changing or the plugs have oiled up as the engine is worn and burning oil.

yet again i believe this car is a fuel injected system controlled by an engine management system not to be fiddle with as it could lead to a fire.

I'm a women, how can I take my car in to have the oil changed, oil filter,& new air filter. That's all I want..

First off, be very specific in requesting what services you want performed.. in this case.. a request for an 'L.O.F.- check fluids; R%26amp;R Air Filter' should be sufficient. It demands very specific repairs be performed, and nothing more beyond that. Find a shop you trust.. ask around.. many ppl wil take their cars to a specific shop because family or friend recommended it, or they've had nothing but good service from themI%26039;m a women, how can I take my car in to have the oil changed, oil filter,%26amp; new air filter. Be very confident and tell them what you want. If and when they tell you the car needs anything else, confidently tell them that you are just getting the oil changed today. You can even act 1/2 interested by saying will you write that down so I can take it with me for later.I%26039;m a women, how can I take my car in to have the oil changed, oil filter,%26amp; new air filter. For the oil, simply take it to one of the places that do only that, there are lots of chains like grease monkey, jiffy lube and others.

For the air filter, if you go to almost any small parts store and buy one, the guys there would be glad to put it in at no charge for a girl.I%26039;m a women, how can I take my car in to have the oil changed, oil filter,%26amp; new air filter. That%26039;s all I want..
Drive up to a 'Quick Lube' outlet and tell them to do the needful. They will take your car and while you wait and watch them at work they will finish the job in about 20-25 minutes. These places have waiting rooms and coffee bars as well. The staff is courteous and civilised and they do extend good service, especially to women.I%26039;m a women, how can I take my car in to have the oil changed, oil filter,%26amp; new air filter. If you're unsure of a reliable independent mechanic in your area, then I would suggest taking it to the dealership. Be polite, and just say you want an oil change (includes a new oil filter), and the air filter replaced. It shouldn't be more than $35 for a Japanese car or about $60 for a German car. FYI, they WILL find a list of things that need replacing, inspecting, etc... that's their job! If you're sure that's all your vehicle needs, then just tell them you only have time for an oil change today, but get some price quotes for the other services, and you'll be back another time. That way you got your oil change done, and it gives you time to find a reliable mechanic, or ask around to see if the prices quoted were in fact fair...I%26039;m a women, how can I take my car in to have the oil changed, oil filter,%26amp; new air filter. Do you have a Jiffy Lube? (or the equivalent), take your car in, and tell them what you want. When they come into the waiting room with any other %26quot;Services%26quot; they think (Or %26quot;recomend%26quot;), you need, Just tell them NO! Simply restate, %26quot;Change the oil and filters%26quot;, Thank you! Just do it yourself if you are so scared about being ripped off. Anybody's grandma can do that job.I%26039;m a women, how can I take my car in to have the oil changed, oil filter,%26amp; new air filter. That%26039;s all I want..
Find a small independent auto shop. They'll usually do the just the basics without trying to sell you all their services.

    Filter Change Gone Very Wrong?

Thanks to anyone that has legal advice on this matter, I'm reverting to this avenue before getting a lawyer involved.

I brought my vehicle into Jiffy Lube for an Oil change a month ago. They recommended that I replace my cabin air filter, so I did. The statement of work that I received from Jiffy Lube states that I received an oil change and also my cabin air filter was replaced. Shortly after my visit to Jiffy Lube, I began hearing loud vibrating noises underneath my glove box. I took my car into my dealer to see what the issue was and they told me that a lever on the Cabin Air Filter compartment was broken off and was rattling around in the blower. This piece controls where the source of air is coming from (either from outside the vehicle, or air within). Needless to say, to repair this costs around $1600.

Does anyone have any advice on how I should proceed with getting Jiffy Lube to pay for the damage? Do you think they will pay? Will my case hold in court? I have contacted the manager at Jiffy Lube and they would like me to bring in my car and inspect it.

Type %26quot;Jiffy Lube Horror Stories%26quot; into google and you'll find tons of people who had problems very similar. It will be a long hard battle, and probably very frustrating - but if you keep at it and keep all you receipts and statements you should be able to win your case. Try this site out, it will give you estimates for prices. http://repairpal.com/.

Out of all of those upgrades the air filter, spark plugs, and pvc valve would be easy for anyone to do so you wouldnt have to pay for labor if you knew someone that knows very little about engines. The PCV valve is under 10$ for the part, spark plugs (depending on what you want) run anywhere from 3-10$ per cylinder, and the air filter can run from about 20-50$. Of course im just going by what i know for the price of the part, not labor.Catching up on scheduled maintenance on 02 durango, estimate for these services please, thanks!?
You can do all that yourself. All of that is easy stuff. But in a shop

about 20-30 bucks for a basic oil change

The air filter would be about 15 bucks labor

Inspection of brake lines shouldn't be much, replacing wouldn't be so bad.

Spark Plugs would probably be about 50-75 bucks labor then the plugs themselves

PCV valves take a while to go bad on newer vehicles. That's a simple check you can do yourself and it takes about 5 minutes. You don't even need tools for that one.

Don't forget trans fluid and filter change

    Radiator flush and refill

    Fuel filter

    Spark plug wires

Tire inspection and balanceCatching up on scheduled maintenance on 02 durango, estimate for these services please, thanks!?
any dodge dealer or service station will give you an accurate quote on this , if it is 4 wheel drive you cannot clean and repack the bearingsCatching up on scheduled maintenance on 02 durango, estimate for these services please, thanks!?
oil change 25 to 35 dollars

spark plugs depinging on the kind you wont 20 to 120 dollars

    air fillter 20 or so

brakes if you need them 35 to 50

a good shop would inpect all the other thing for free note that if you take it to a dealer you will pay 2 or 3 time this

Change them whenever they become dirty. Some filters are 1 month filters, some are three month filters, etc., but check them every month or so and change them as needed.

A sure sign that you need to change them more often is a lot of dust on furniature.

Filters are cheap enough that there is no reason to try to clean them. By trying to clean them, you will get the dirt and dust going through them, defeating the purpose of the filter.

That is unless it is some kind of alergy free filter that is suposed to be cleaned instead of replaced.

I want a good resource. Like an on- line checklist.I need to know about care maitenance. After how many miles do you change the oil? Brakes? Air filter? Etc..?
Every 3000 miles you change your oil if regular. If synthetic oil, every 5000 miles.

Every time you change your oil, you should check all the fluid and inspect the vehicle from the bottom. If you live in the country or a place where there is lot of dust...etc, I would change the air filter every three oil changes.

Your car should have a manual with a maintenance charts. You should take a look at if you really want to treat you vehicle good.

Good luck!I need to know about care maitenance. After how many miles do you change the oil? Brakes? Air filter? Etc..?

I always have my unit serviced once a year and they can give you a professional evaluation of all the components of your system. It's usually fewer than 100 including a new filter and they really help in preventative maintenanceHow often do I need to have my forced air ducts cleaned if I change filters regularly?
Probably no more than once ever 15 years. As long as you change filters regularly, the air ducts should remain in pretty good shape. How often do I need to have my forced air ducts cleaned if I change filters regularly?
You NEVER need to have the ducts cleaned.

  • I have a 1988 ford escort lx and i am looking to get some work done on it?

just about how much should i pay to do a tune up. Spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, plug wires, oil change, air filter, fuel filter, please help me out I have a 1988 ford escort lx and i am looking to get some work done on it?
You should do most of it. It's very easy and kind of hard to screw it up.

Air Filter: Remove the cover, lift old filter right up, lay the new filter down, Replace the cover. (By far the easiest)

Oil change: Lift front of car with jack and use jack stands for the love of god. Slightly Loosen drain plug with a ratchet. (the screw at the bottom of the engine drain pan. Its by itself and hard to miss). Place a container to drain the oil into under the plug before completely removing the drain plug. The oil will run right out. Then unscrew the oil filter by hand. Use some of the new oil to coat the rubber part of the top of the new oil filter and screw it on by hand. When the oil is done draining screw the plug back in and fill the engine with new oil.

(This is also very easy to do. And you wont have any of those horror stories about people who were screwed by the shop and drove off with no oil in their cars.)

Plug Wires: (Extremely easy) Most people do them at the same time as the spark plugs but if you feel nervous about it you can do the wires first. Pull the distributor end of one wire. Then carefully follow the wire to its Plug and remove that end. Find the new Wire that matches the length of the old one and connect it to the plug and distributor. BE sure to route it the same way and only do one at a time to avoid confusion. Repeat for all wires.

Spark Plugs (Medium): Make sure they are all gapped correctly and apply boot grease to the tops (non threaded ends) of each plug. You can ask someone at the parts store to help you with this. Pull the boot off a plug. Use your ratchet with an extension if necessary to remove the old plug. Insert the new plug and tighten with ratchet. Replace boot. Do this for every plug. Make sure you have a magnet on hand just in case you cant pull a plug out after unscrewing it.

As for the distributor cap and rotor and the fuel filter, You might need the shop to do that for you. But in the end you would save a ton of money by doing the simple stuff yourself.I have a 1988 ford escort lx and i am looking to get some work done on it?
Book time shouldn't be more than a hour and a half... Plus the cost of parts.

Calculating this is basically, labor rate times a hour and a half plus the cost of parts... And what kind of parts. New or old car, I almost always suggest OEM. Motorcraft are easy to get at any Murrays, Advance Auto etc.

    Good luck.

How often i have to change my car's air filter?

modern air filters are rated pretty high mileage (30K to 50K). That's almost 3 to 5 years. The old donut shaped filters should be replace once a year.

    ===

But that's not to say you shouldn't replace them earlier. From time to time, take a look at the filter. It the filter is dirty (or dark), change them. They aren't that expensive.

Don't go crazy with %26quot;re-usable%26quot; filters. They are not expensive to just replace. How often i have to change my car%26039;s air filter?
once you have the air filter removed, tap it litely on the cement, this will remove more particles, then take a trouble-light and shine it from the inside of the filter out.if you can see light shining through it readily,it's alright.if the light doesn't shine through readily, then get a new filter.

How do I change/locate fuel and air filter on 1995 Mercedes C200 2.0i (petrol, manual)?

Hi does anyone how easy this is; does it need to go to dealer? I have bought new air and fuel filters and was going to try and do it myself or get a friend with some technical knowledge to do it - any ideas? Please help!

Thanks :-)How do I change/locate fuel and air filter on 1995 Mercedes C200 2.0i (petrol, manual)?
The air filter is very easy but the fuel filter is more difficult as it's located under the car and by the differential. While the fuel filter can be changed by just putting the rear end up on jacks, it is much easier to change it with the vehicle raised on a hoist.

I should just mention that I'm in North America and we don't have the C200 here ( we only had the C220, C280 and the C36 in '95 ). However, the fuel filter is located in the same area though on the 4 and 6 cylinders on the early W202 models so I'm assuming that it's in the same place on the C200.How do I change/locate fuel and air filter on 1995 Mercedes C200 2.0i (petrol, manual)?
The parts department at the dealer can tell you where the filters are located on your car.

You might be better off letting the dealer do the work, some well-meaning friends have been known to create bigger problems than the ones they were trying to solve. How do I change/locate fuel and air filter on 1995 Mercedes C200 2.0i (petrol, manual)?
Bandit is right - the fuel filter is in the same place as US-Spec C220,C280 etc. There MIGHT be a plastic shroud (three plastic 10mm nuts) covering it from underneath but i am not sure if this is right for every variant.

Just make sure that you use some clamps on the fuel hoses (to prevent spills) and obey all usual precautions on working with open fuel system.

The clamp and screw that keeps the filter in place is usually corroded and it might be difficult to undo it; refrain from drastic methods of removal as there is risk of fire from sparking.

How often should I change the air stone in my Fish tank?

It's my first fish tank (Although I've had it since June). It's a Planet 3 Gallon tank (From Meijer) %26amp; it came with a filter: Lung GX100. How often should I change the airstone?

I haven't changed it at all, though my tank seems to be doing fine. I just want to make sure I'm not neglecting my fishies or my tank. How often should I change the air stone in my Fish tank?
Just change when you observe that the airstone is starting to break up, which takes a long time so don't worry. There is a small risk the airstone may get a bit clogged over time with debris and especially algae, just scrub it off with a brush (but no soap or chemicals). As a general rule, use airstones that can produce smaller bubbles for greater effectiveness, though these might clog more easily due to the smaller holes. How often should I change the air stone in my Fish tank?
Do you mean the filter or do you have an air-stone. The filter should be changed about monthly or sooner if it is plugged. An air stone can last a long time. You may want to replace it if it gets dirty and restricts the flow of air thru it.How often should I change the air stone in my Fish tank?
there is no predetermined time an air stone will last as they are either poor quality and crumble away or get plugged up with slime.

try and determine if the air flow is decreasing out of the stones or if your air pump has gotten noisier (both indicators of plugged air stones)

when you change them look for plastic airstones as they are slimmer in the filter and allow more water to pass them in the tubes.

goodluckHow often should I change the air stone in my Fish tank?
Depending on the hardness of your water and the cleanliness of your water you may need to change this every six months or every couple of years. They will slowly have build up from water minerals and will slowly have organic waste/slim build up on it as well. Most people never change these then wonder why their air flow slowed down due to back pressure on the pump. Air stones are cheap and you are better off changing them every 6 months to a year though they can work for a lot longer. The wood air stones and really fine bubbled air stones clog faster. How often should I change the air stone in my Fish tank?
As long as plenty of air is still coming out it is fine, usually around 6 months replace airstones and filter media, allthough the filter pads can be changed more frequently. As long as ample air is going into the tank should be fine, also if the fish are swimming on top sucking for air is a good indicator there is not enough oxygen in the waterHow often should I change the air stone in my Fish tank?
I wouldn't change the air stone at all unless it gets clogged and restricts airflow. As long as there are plenty of bubbles the air stone is working fine. . The filter should be replaced at minimum once a monthHow often should I change the air stone in my Fish tank?
Whenever it becomes clogged. How often should I change the air stone in my Fish tank?
I don't change mine at all...when I clean the tank I take out the stone and brush it with an old toothbrush to spruce it up a bit, but if things look normal...leave it be, sometimes we can cause more harm by messing with their environment. How often should I change the air stone in my Fish tank?

The opening inside was not completely covered by the filter, the top part of the %26quot;square was not totaly covered. Is there a way for me to find out what size airfilter i should be using? It's a trane systemHow do I know what size filter to get for my central air?
Filter accesses are field installed and do not necessarily use a factory filter rack so the brand of the air handler doesn't help us.

You should be able to measure the opening and depth with a tape measure.

Filters are typically a half inch smaller than what the dimensions say on the filter.

If you have difficulty with figuring out the size, I would have a tech come out and check the system and rectify the filter problem. How do I know what size filter to get for my central air?
measure the old one and then measure the amount of space not covered by the filter.....add together and thats the filter size you need. How do I know what size filter to get for my central air?
u will have to take and measure the opening where the filter fits.......no filters will have fractions, ex: 22x21 or 30 x 24 .....

Use a steel meter to measure the actual size to be covered. If there's nothing to fit in, you will have to buy a larger size and reduce it according to your measurements.

Is it easy to replace a cabin air filter in a Lexus?

I have a low-mileage car and normally only get the 15,000 mile service every 3 years. If I know how to change the filter myself, I could change it every 1.5 years to keep the car smelling fresh. Where is it, and is it hard to get to it? Thanks. Is it easy to replace a cabin air filter in a Lexus?
On all of the Lexus models that I work on it is easy to replace the cabin filter. On most models all you have to do is remove a plastic cover in the glovebox. The instructions are in your owners manual. You should have no problem. When you buy some filters the instructions are in the box. Be careful, sometimes there are leaves and debris on top of the filter when you remove it. The debris can fall into the blades of your heater fan. If this happens, take a vacuum cleaner with a small flexible attachment on it and remove it from the fan. If debris falls in the fan it will vibrate when it runs at high speeds. Is it easy to replace a cabin air filter in a Lexus?
Not sure about ease to get. If it is easy to replace, then how to do so will be in owners manual. Watch the next time you take it in (or ask) and remember.

Take the engine to your local bike racing tuner, get him to bore the barrel out and tune it. Then test it on the dyno. Bring it back after you done 100 miles on it for another rebuild. Walaaa! Maybe not the cheapest way.

Is changing out your cabin air filter important?

does it have any effect on the life of your AC system or is it just to keep the inside air cleaner? if it is important what kinds of things could go wrong if you dont , and how often in general do you need to change it?Is changing out your cabin air filter important?
First off I have to say that I am not a professional, but I have spent alot of money on cars.

It's Sunday and the big basketball game is this afternoon, but you can forget about getting tickets. So it's gather the crowd and drive to the sports bar. Minutes into the ride, the windshield is so foggy, you've got to hit the Defrost button. But why? The panel is set to outside air for heater operation, and there are no smokers in the car. You put your hand over the defroster outlets and there's hardly any airflow. When you turn the blower switch to high, the noise level goes up but the airflow is still weak.

Maybe you need to change the cabin air filter. If it's plugged, the passenger compartment might as well be a sealed cabin--and with a carload of friends the glass will fog in minutes. Filter life depends on the air quality in your area, but a year, or 12,000 to 15,000 miles, typically is the recommended replacement interval.

Cabin air filter? In the late 1980s and early 1990s, only some European luxury cars had them. It's more common on newer cars. In many premium cars, there may be two filters, even three. Sometimes they're parallel (side by side), sometimes they're in series (one after the other, with some space in between). Sometimes they're nowhere near each other

How can i restore horsepower to my 1995 chevy 4.3 v6 on a budget? i've changed the oil/air filter.?

I purchased it a few months ago as a work truck. It had 104,000 + miles on it when I bought it. I've replaced the air and oil filters, changed the oil, I also like using the Lucas fuel treatment cleaner in my fuel. I prefer to use 92 octane only because of the year and mileage. I'm in the process of changing the spark plugs and fuel filter within the next day or so. I was also thinking about installing a cold/mass air induction system with a 1%26quot; throttle body spacer for a better performance. Any input would be helpful to lead me in the right direction. How do I know when to change the thermostat or know when it isn't working??

I flushed my radiator about three times until water was clear and then refilled with half and half, coolant/distilled water. I did this because it hadn't been done since I bought the truck ('95 Ford Ranger, 107K miles) from a neighbor two years before, plus the fact that the truck's coolant temp gauge needle was going past the middle mark but not all the way into %26quot;H.%26quot; Afterwards, it was a little better, but it still happened once in a while for long trips on the highway. Just changed the air filter w/ a K%26amp;N filter and strangely things seemed to improve, but the needle still moves a little past the middle. I don't know what else to do. So, I'm wondering about the thermostat...How do I know when to change the thermostat or know when it isn%26039;t working??
If the engine takes too long to heat up then it probably is a bad thermostat. Watch the temp Gage and see if the temperature is in the proper range when the temperature gets up to the proper operating temp then the thermostat will open up letting the water circulate through the engine. You can tell when this happens as you may be able to hear the thermostat click and followed by a sudden and temporary drop in temperature as the cooler water from the radiator starts going through the engine and the warmer water from the engine goes to the radiator to be cooled by the fan also you may sense a sudden and temporary drop in engine speed when the fan kicks in .How do I know when to change the thermostat or know when it isn%26039;t working??
thermostats go out often. they are easy enough to change and cheap. is your fan working? with it warming up your fan could have shorted out a while ago and it's just now affecting you temp gage. if it is okay. just change the thermostat. if that doesn't work pay for the diagnosticHow do I know when to change the thermostat or know when it isn%26039;t working??
No idea how your gage is calibrated, but, most of the time a %26quot;stat%26quot; will stick open, not shut. That will cause too low of a temp and no heat from the heater. Too hot (in or real close to)the red and that is more apt to be from some other cause, fan, air flow etc.How do I know when to change the thermostat or know when it isn%26039;t working??
When your vehicle starts to over heat, check thermostart and when it starts to operate below normal temperaturesHow do I know when to change the thermostat or know when it isn%26039;t working??
First off what engine do you have? the thermostat should be changed every 2 years. You should have the cooling system pressure checked for leaks.

How much for front brake pads, rear brake pads, and front rotors?

    I have a 1999 Acura Integra.

I went to the shop and had the following done:

new brake fluid, changed air filter, front brake pads, rear brake pads, front rotors.

It was 185 parts+ 160 labor came out to be a total of $361.

Do you think it was a fair price? How much for front brake pads, rear brake pads, and front rotors?
THats fair for not doing it urself...If it was my car, it would of cost me 160, i do all that myself :)

But to do it yourself would require about 200 to 400 in tools and safety equipment. This pays for itself after a few years. How much for front brake pads, rear brake pads, and front rotors?
thats cheaper than dirt/in nj front pads are 125.cramic/discs are 60 ea and the rear pads are 115/plus fluid and 160 labor and 750 for air filterHow much for front brake pads, rear brake pads, and front rotors?
Although the labor cost always kills ya, the cost of the parts you got sounds fair. Rotors can cost $50 each or more, pads are usually $20 or more and theres almost all of your cost and you still have the filter ($5) and fluid to account for. You could always go to www.autozone.com and put in your car make and model and then find the cost of the parts there. How much for front brake pads, rear brake pads, and front rotors?
Seems fair if the work is quality. Dirty job too.How much for front brake pads, rear brake pads, and front rotors?
It all depends on what brands/quality parts he got you.

Assuming, he got you brand name parts at the lowest price (better than some cheap ebay brand at same price):

    Front rotor set around $80

    Brakes F and Rear: $100

Total 180 ish so thats a very good price.

For labor. Installing the front rotor and pads on each side takes about 30 minutes for total:

~1 hr on the front rotors/brake pads.

    ~45 minutes for rear pads

~20 minutes for bleeding and changing brake fluid.

    Total labor: about 2hr +

Verdict: Part fee was excellent. Labor fee was fair. You got good deal.

Don't know particularly for a fiesta but ...

As its over three years old it should be MOT'd every year (or VOSA) usually serviced and MOT'd together, otherwise its illegal to drive and the ANPR cameras will flag you up every time

Usually replace the air filter, can get from halfords, or ebay or local motor factor, whatever you do don't remove it and run the engine without one, it will be great for a while then B*** expensive to repair.

Some you can clean by washing with petrol, but they are usually paper and that would destroy it, if its a cloth sort of thing then washing with petrol is the usuall way, but let it dry out before you try running it.

Usually follow the air intake pipes and you'll come to a plastic box that holds the air filter, sometimes held closed by spring clips or screws. Air intake is other side of engine from exhaust.

If its misfiring, could be that or spark plugs, you can remove and clean them, or replace them. You will need a set of feeler guages to re-set the gaps and a plug wrench to remove/ replace them.

For the oil change - no point unless you also replace the oil filter, just keep it topped up, but on no account overfill or you end up bowing the end gaskets.

To change the oil you need it up on ramps, or over a pit, or on a lift, or jack it onto axel stands. There should be a bolt (or maybe a plug with a hex socket) on the very bottom of the engine, removing this will let the oil out. This should be done with the engine hot to get best drainage. The oil filter should be somewhere on the side of the engine, looks vaguely like a coke can but with a rounded bottom, sometimes a hex nut on the bottom, sometimes you need a filter wrench to remove them. Some have a heavy casing and you replace an insert, some are lighter (cartridge filter) and you just unscrew and screw in a new one. Always use the new seals that come with the filter., sometimes you need to scrape the old seals off, but usually not to hard.

The local tech colleges used to do a motor maintenance evening classes that cost next to nothing and will give you enough nonce to not get screwed by the garage recommending unnecessary or inappropriate repairs.

Another good tip is to go to the local motor factors and blag your way as trade, get name and address of local back street garage and say they asked you to pick up the parts. I got 45 quid oil (0w30) for 13 quid etc...

change the oil- locate the sump (wide lump of metal under the engine) and find the sump plug (it kinda looks like a bolt) remove the plug and have a container ready to catch the oil as it comes out (its a messy job be careful) and then put the sump plug back in. pour new oil into the top of the engine ( a yellow ring attached to a top of a tube) funnels are very handy for doing this

clean the air filter- not possible, get a new one there are probably a few screws to remove etc don't try to clean it this wont make a difference

spark plugs are another thing you could need to change- you may need a special attachment to put on a ratchet just screw them out and screw in the new ones

all the above stuff should cost not as much as a service in a garage mabye 20-40 quidHow to change the oil and clean the air filter on a 1999 ford fiesta?

  • How often should you change the glow plug and air filter in a ford focus 05 with 31000 miles on the clock?

is it hard to do this your selfHow often should you change the glow plug and air filter in a ford focus 05 with 31000 miles on the clock?
Do they make a diesel ford focus? Glow plugs are for Diesel engines. Gas engines use spark plugs. It is relatively simple to replace the spark plugs and the air filter. The air filter should be replaced as soon as it gets dirty. and the spark plugs should be done at 60k miles. How often should you change the glow plug and air filter in a ford focus 05 with 31000 miles on the clock?
mines on about 75k at the mo and the original ones are still in..i mean heater glow plug.. air filters are changed yearly by fords when service is carried out .. i can look up service intervals if u need me toHow often should you change the glow plug and air filter in a ford focus 05 with 31000 miles on the clock?
Air filters are checked and replaced when necessary at every service.

Glow plugs For diesels do not have a set change schedule just change when faulty. Best to have all 4 done at the same time when they do as the others won't be far behind it.

At 31,000 miles i would expect them to last another 50,000 thoughHow often should you change the glow plug and air filter in a ford focus 05 with 31000 miles on the clock?
i have a 2005 gmc pick-up and i have had the same glow plugs now and the milage is about 310 000 miles. if they are not causeing problems don't worry. Ussaully if you find it takes longer to heat the glow plugs before you can start this is a sign that they could need change or if the system tries to heat them up twice.

Honeywell Air Filter question for my house?

Hi, I have recently installed Honeywell model 2200 air cleaner in my house, and uses FC200E1037 20x25x5 air filter. It says MERV 11 what is this mean? Also how often do I need to change the filter? I have 1500 sq ft house with 2 dogs and adult. No one smokes. But get dusty due to the dogs I suppose. Thanks. OH, and if since I installed this system, do I not longer need to change the previous air filter (22x22x1 in size) nor install anything in there? Honeywell Air Filter question for my house?

I'm sure only a service technician should change the filter as it contains fiberglas. If you decide to take the task on ....wear a disposable mask just to be safe.

Check the filter according to the air cleaner use manual. It should say.

I couldn't find anything within Honeywell site FAQ to assist you.
